GREEN SPRINGS -- John Lyle Geiger, age 93, of rural Green Springs, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at the Willows Nursing Home, Bellevue. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Mr. Geiger was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Monroeville, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Lilly Bell (Weber) Geiger.
He grew up in Monroeville and Bellevue and was a World War II veteran. In 1941, he married Betty Faith Strecker, of Bellevue. They resided until 1975 in Bellevue, where he worked for 37 years as a railroad conductor with the Nickel Plate and Norfolk and Western Railroads.
He was an avid gardener, camper and jogger for most of his life, and he continued jogging daily until he was 87 years old. His membership in the Mad River Rovers camping club and annual vacations in the north woods left his four children with an enduring love of the outdoors. He was also an avid square dancer for many years. John was known as a decent, hard-working family man and a faithful husband of 67 years.
John is survived by his wife; his sons, Dennis, Steve and Chris; his daughter, Cathlene (Geiger) Boring; and his grandchildren, Lucas Geiger, Mathew Geiger, Lori (Geiger) Van Hoose, Troy Adams, and Gwendolyn Geiger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Dorothy Geiger.
At his request, his body has been donated to science and there will be no funeral services or memorial.
