AMHERST, Ohio -- Mrs. Phyllis Adelle (Baum) Murphy, 82, of Findlay, passed away at 12:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, while in the company of her son at Birchaven Retirement Village, Findlay.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Bellevue, on Nov. 17, 1925, the daughter of the late Clayton and Ruth (Keene) Baum. She was the widow of the Edward J. Murphy. They were married on Jan. 12, 1945, in Lorain. He preceded her in death in January 1979.
Phyllis is survived by her son, James Murphy, of Findlay; daughter-in-law: Roxy Murphy, of Clinton, Ind.; sisters, Mrs. Lois Clark and Mrs. Dale (Janice) Raymond, both of Lorain, and Mrs. Dewayne (Ruth Lee) Bertsch, of Amherst. She is also survived by two beautiful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was employed as a laborer at Joseph and Feisse Garment Factory, in Lorain; at General Electric in both Bellevue then in Bucyrus; and then as a waitress at the Hole in the Wall Restaurant, alongside her son, Jim. She most recently worked as a clerk at the Convenient Food Mart in Amherst.
Phyllis was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lorain. She was also a First Mother Advisor to Bellevue Rainbow Girls in the late 1960s. She was a member of Howard United Methodist Church Findlay.
At the family's request there will be no visitation.
The family will hold a memorial service at Faith Baptist Church, 440 N. Lake St., Amherst, on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. in honor of Phyllis's memory with the Rev. Michael Plog officiating.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in Phyllis's name to Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, OH 45840.
