Archbold looks to fill Yoder's post on school board

ARCHBOLD - There is a vacancy on the Archbold Area Local School's Board of Education (BOE), due to the resignation of David K. Yoder, and the remaining board members have 30 days to fill it.

Board President Scott Miller said Yoder, who is in his third term, is resigning from the school board effective Monday, Nov. 17. The board must begin the process to replace Yoder soon, and must name the replacement within 30 days. The newly appointed school board member will serve until December 31, 2009.

Yoder began serving on the Archbold Board of Education on January 1, 2000. He submitted the following statement to Board President Scott Miller:

"Due to increased family commitments, it is with deep regret that I submit my resignation from the Archbold Area Local Schools Board of Education. This resignation is effective November 17, 2008.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this great district. My wish for the district is for the success of the students. I hope that they continue to have great academic experiences supplemented by many wonderful extra-curricular opportunities, while being mentored by teachers and staff members with great character and commitment."

School Board President Scott Miller stated, "David Yoder has faithfully served this district for the past nine years and has been involved in many positive leadership initiatives within the district. David has been and remains a strong supporter of the board, the superintendent, the administration, staff and students of Archbold.

Miller added, "We will certainly miss his leadership on the Board. While we fully understand the demands of serving on the board, we admire David's desire to always keep increased family commitments a number one priority.

"Our entire community offer our thanks to Mr. Yoder for his dedication and commitment to the students, families and businesses of the Archbold Area Schools," says David Deskins, District Superintendent. "He has been instrumental in helping our district respond favorably during extremely difficult financial times the district has encountered over recent years. Mr. Yoder will remain a strong advocate for excellence in education as well as for student's having varied extra-curricular opportunities at Archbold and his heart will always be with the Archbold Area Schools, its' students, staff members and with our entire community.

"I also offer my thanks to his family members for allowing him to spend so much time serving the students and taxpayers of our district. His service on our board will be greatly missed," said Deskins.

Citizens interested in being considered for appointment to Archbold Area Local School Board of Education should contact David Deskins, Superintendent for an application beginning Monday, Nov. 10. Due to the short replacement window, the application deadline is Monday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m.

According to the Ohio School Boards Association, people serving on school boards in Ohio must be district residents and registered voters. If they wish to continue serving on the school board, they will stand for election in the next general election.

Applications will be accepted from Monday, Nov. 10 through Monday, Nov. 17 in the district office. The board will review all applications on Nov. 17 and will schedule interviews shortly thereafter. The district intends to decide on the replacement at The Monday, Dec. 15 meeting.

The Archbold Area Local Schools serve nearly 1,300 students in three school buildings. Archbold schools are the home school district to residents living in Archbold Village (located within German Township), Franklin Township, Ridgeville Corners and Ridgeville Township, Freedom Township, Burlington and Elmira.
