Calico Cat new to downtown

Shop offers

antiques,

unique gifts

The Calico Cat opened during Winesburg Weekend on Dec. 1, 2007.

The owner, Mary Jane Dawes, has been in the antique and collectibles in Virginia about 15 years. Dawes was born and raised in Clyde, then left for 30 years and then returned to be a part of the community again.

The Calico Cat sells antiques, collectibles and gift items. Dawes has reported that the store has had a surprisingly reception to the Clyde area. December and January sales were higher than her expectations, she noted.

Dawes reported that she will maintain a quality business and will keep window displays current and interesting. Stock in the store is changed and added to weekly.

Shop hours will expand with warmer weather coming. The Calico Cat owner would like to be open at night to compliment Our Town's Brewin' night hours, she added.

Dawes commented that even though she is the "new kid on the block", she is proud to be part of downtown Clyde. She believes Clyde downtown area can come back and is glad to see other businesses taking a chance on downtown too. She is hopeful that the new businesses will help make a difference in Clyde.
