Nearly a year ago, Dr. James Burson opened his new facility at 510 E. McPherson Highway, and he is already looking for a new associate to join him in Premier Dental.

"I felt the community was growing with the expansion at Whirlpool," he said about the reason for building the new office, which has room for two dental operations.

Besides demolishing the old LK diner, Burson said the new office improve the appearance of U.S. 20.

He said it seemed to make sense to him to expand his dental practice in the community rather than wait for someone else to do it.

"We just started looking for an associate this month," he said in late February.

The office has eight rooms for services and his future plans are for Premier Dental to house 2 1/2 dentists.

The man who located a practice in Clyde in 1993 said he is looking to the future when he will be able to work just part-time and semi retires.

"It's a seven to 10 year thing," he commented. "It will take three years to bring someone here and get comfortable."

"This office is not that big when you consider what we're going to do for it," he said.

"We've exceeded expectations and growth which is one of the reasons we need to get someone in here," he said. "The best month we had was the first month we were here," Burson commented.

Burson said he foresees the office being open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and open on Saturdays at some point in the future.

The 4,000 square foot office has eight rooms for treatment and Burson said he is having two dental hygienists working at the same time more and more.

His last office had four chairs and 1,700 square feet.

Burson said he was involved in the details of his new office from design to color scheme and fixtures.

"I designed the office for the patient," he explained. "It's a comfortable flow.

"You do not hear dentistry going on in the back," he said about people waiting in the lobby."

"I try to make every room look different, the operatories too," he said.

Besides creating a special space for his clients, it is also a comfortable work environment for his staff.

"They are like family," he said, adding that he also built in space for an office manager once the business grows.

The dental services officers veneers, dental veneers, whitening, fillings, periodontics, root canals, deals with gum problems and nearly every thing except braces or implants, he said.
