FFA members from Clyde High School aid with landscaping area home. (Submitted photograph)

FFA youths design, install landscaping

Each year, the Clyde FFA designs and installs a landscape project for a community member.

This hands on project allows students to have the opportunity to see what is involved in the landscape industry.

Since the end of April, 34 members of the Clyde FFA have been busy working on the annual landscaping project. This year the project included the installation of a new lawn and the landscaping of the new home of the Jim Steinberger family of Fremont.

Jim Steinberger harvested crops for the Clyde FFA at the WSOS farm, and to thank him the students installed a new lawn and worked with landscaping around his new home. The project was started in April.

On May 23, 34 Clyde FFA students spent the day with the Steinbergers and helped with the landscape by building raised beds, planting flowers and shrubbery, installing a paver walkway, a paver wall, and mulched the beds.

The freshman focused on designing the project in class, and then overcame the challenges of organizing and constructing the project.

The Ag Business class returned for four more days during their class period to finish the different lawn projects.

In June, 22 Clyde FFA members will attend FFA Camp Muskingum in Carrollton. The group of students will be challenged to make new friends plus participate in captivity events designed to teach new skills and sporting tournaments at camp.

Star Greenhand Ethan Duncan will receive a free camp scholarship from the Clyde Young Farmers and every student attending will have $25 of their trip paid for by the Young Farmer organization.

After returning from camp, FFA members will be bailing straw for the annual go cart races at the Clyde Country Fair this fall.
