Area man killed in crash

ADAMS TWP. -- Michael W. Black, 42, of Bellevue, was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening at the intersection of Seneca CR 21 and CR 34.

Troopers from the Fremont Patrol of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Reports indicate Black was driving a 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight westbound on CR 34 when he came to a stop at the stop sign at CR 21. Matthew H. Holmer, 21, from Republic, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 northbound on CR 21 when Black failed to yield from the stop sign and drove into the intersection. Black's car was hit on the driver's side by Holmer.

Troopers said Black was not wearing his safety belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holmer was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to The Bellevue Hospital.

The extend of his injuries is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. Alcohol use is unknown at this time.
