Letters to editor

Remember our

Coast Guard

To the editor:

The MMS Choir Concert on Thursday, May 22 was great entertainment. I thought the kids did very well and Mrs. (Joyce) Fernandez, their choir director, did a fine job of preparing the classes for the night's program.

It was great to see such a Patriotic show just before Memorial Day and as always in this time of year made you reflect on how we depend on the courage of others to secure our freedoms.

I particularly liked the part of the program where the members of our local VFW participated and presented the Flags of each Branch of Service.

However, (I) was disappointed when we did not represent our Coast Guard. The United States Coast Guard, one of the country's five armed services, is also one of the most unique agencies of the federal government.

Next time please make sure we include all of our past and present veterans when preparing such a spectacular program. Although the theme song of the Coast Guard, "Semper Paratus" was not included I feel their Flag should have been presented on stage like the others.

Please, let's be careful not to forget there are five Branches of our Beloved Armed Forces.
