Letters to editor
Plaza Lanes
was more than
a business
To the editor,
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the communities of Fremont, Clyde and the surrounding areas. Your thoughts, prayers and well wishes were gladly accepted in our time of need.
We would like to thank the Clyde and other surrounding fire departments for their exceptional skills and talents; thank God no one was hurt in the process.
Their quick response possibly saved out neighboring businesses. When we arrived on scene shortly after the fire department, we realized all that was going to be left were memories.
Our employees were always an important part of the success of our business and we are saddened by the hardships they also face. This is a difficult time for them.
Plaza Lanes was truly a family fun center. Our parents bought the business in 1964 to fulfill their dream of owning their own business. Roger and Charlie grew up and worked there. Recently, their children have grown up, worked there and bowled there on their high school bowling teams with friends.
As with our family, many area families celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, and their first dates at the Center. Grandparents, also, took their grandchildren bowling there for the first time as well.
It was a place where friends and co-workers could get together and have a few cold ones and enjoy Cameo Pizza. It was a place to relax and enjoy free time.
As we look forward, we would like to thank all of our bowlers who have supported us through the years. Even though our resources were sometimes limited, we always tried to make it a place where everyone could have fun.
We are now moving in a forward direction to rebuild as fast as possible and will let the community know of our plans as soon as we can.
Thank you for bowling at Plaza Lanes (in Green Creek Township) and thanks for the memories.
Roger and Joan Rhoad and family,
Fremont
Truly the Voice
of the Fliers
To the editor,
In an earlier article, Coach (Mark) Rosche alluded to the pleasure he received from watching this year's senior group and the class they showed on the floor.
That is largely do to the input of Coach Rosche, as he had all of us as players, and many of us in the classroom, besides Eric Johnson due to the late transfer.
He not only taught us the fundamentals of the game, but how to play the game the right way. He taught us to play for the name on the front of the jersey opposed to the one on the back, and to play the game with pride as we not only represented our school, but our whole community.
Then as we grew up he stepped back into our lives, but this time in the form of announcing the home basketball games, what a treat! As a junior high player, I anxiously looked forward to the day Coach Rosche would announce my high school games.
He brought enthusiasm to every games, fought through sickness, and even rushed there after coaching his own seventh grade ball club.
This aspect along with many other great qualities this man possesses has left an impact on me, along with everyone else who has had the pleasure of being around him.
He has enhanced my high school basketball experience, and brought much excitement to it. He truly is "The Voice of the Fliers". Thank you Coach Rosche!
Logan Tea,
Clyde
