Local attack needs action

Our community received a sad and troubling report this week that a local elderly man and his wife were attacked in their home by a man with a bat. After the attack, Frank Rios, age 81, died on Monday at the hospital, according to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.

What can anyone find in any middle class home in our community that is so valuable it is worth taking a bat to the body of an elderly man or woman? Our local sheriffs, police and residents need to take this attack quite seriously. We do.

We need to lock our doors and windows, use deadbolts where needed and lock your car doors. Anyone who has any information about the man allegedly involved in this needless assault and death should contact the Seneca County Sheriff's Office or any law enforcement officer with whom you feel comfortable speaking.

This type of brutality must be dealt with swiftly. More and more Ohio cities are slipping into despair and crime due to the current economic conditions. Local residents should make our elected leaders aware that none of us will allow this to happen here again. The need for residents in town and in the townships to feel safe in their homes should be paramount.
