New pastor at 1st UMC
First United Methodist Church welcomed a new pastor on July 1, the Rev. Raymond J. Kovach.
The new pastor came from the Woodland United Methodist Church in Akron where he had served 13 years. His prior service to his last assignment was nine years as director of Camp Asbury in Hiram where he worked nine years.
He has also served the church in Conneaut, Coshocton and Tippecanoe in Harrison County.
He and his wife, Denise McConahy, are now residing at the local church parsonage, he said.
"I'm excited to be here," he commented. Kovach, age 55, said he plans to becoming involved in the community. "I've been active in ecumenical affairs," he added about his past.
"I look forward to working with the other clergy," Kovach added. "I hope to find new avenues in which we can be involved," he said about the church.
Even before moving to Clyde, the pastor attended the Clyde High School girls state tournament game this spring in Akron to meet some of his new flock and community members, he said.
