Fliers have long history of success

By Christian Ortolani

When you hear Clyde High School, the first thing that comes to your mind is their football team.

The reason is because their football program has always had success. Including this year, the Flier football team has won a total of 11 Sandusky Bay Conference titles. They have made the playoffs five different times and have recently clinched their sixth appearance this year.

One of the reasons why they have been so successful is because they are well-funded. They had the privilege this year to have a brand new turf field built. Another reason for their success is their fans. The Fliers' fans are always in the game and cheering for their team.

The Fliers football program has recorded one state championship in 1995 and one state runner-up finish in 1994. There are 17 individual players who have received All-Ohio honors total and two are still on this year's team.

So far this year, the Fliers are 9-1, losing only to Bellevue. They absolutely dominated the Sandusky Bay Conference by going 7-0 making that their school's eleventh SBC football championship. The Fliers' closest conference game this year was against the Huron Tigers with a final score of 26-7.

Last year the Fliers went 2-1 in the playoffs. They lost a heartbreaker in the regional finals to Big Walnut 21-14. Big Walnut then went on to win the Division III state title.

This year, Coach (Marc) Gibson and his players are on a quest to win their schools second state title.

That quest will start Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m when they play their first round playoff game. Good luck Fliers!
