Will Hall of Piety Hill smiles. A daughter came to his house last Saturday.

Hon. James Hunt is receiving congratulations on his friends upon the advent of a male heir.

Miss Cora, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Hanawalt, is quite ill.

Kuhnke's cider mill and jelly and apple butter factory appears to be doing a good business. About a dozen hands are employed, part of the time day and night, and they claim to have plenty of work.

Mrs. C.G. Sanford is quite ill, having been afflicted with a stroke or paralysis last week.

90 years ago

1918

Mr. and Mrs. George Bemis received a telephone message from their daughter Mrs. Nelson A. Groves near Milan, stating that a fire had destroyed the two-story frame residence of the Groves family.

Kenneth, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kuns, was knocked down and run over by an auto while he was playing in the road. The occupants of the car, who were strangers, took him to his home. He was badly bruised all over with a gash over the right eye and a cut on the left knee.

Richard Stevenson had quite a reputation as a bronco buster, but he had an experience with John Ropke's Buckskin that took the tuck out of him. He saddled Buckskin and went out for a joy ride, and got along fine until he reached Green Creek, when Buckskin concluded to have some fun with him. Richard said the critter skinned his saddle off just like a schoolboy getting ready for bed, and that he dumped saddle and rider over the fence into a field and then tried to crawl through the fence after. When Buckskin had his play out, he ambled back to the livery barn, and Richard limped home the best he could.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wonnie Wagner.

1928

Large signs at the village limits noting businesses in Clyde and maintained by Vitrified Iron Products Co. had to be repaired and parts replaced due to vandalism.

Several prominent Sandusky County Republicans, including Clara Hoffman and S.W. Trump, were named to the county executive committee.

70 years ago

1938

J.A. Conley, a local contractor, sustained bad bruises and a sprained ankle in a fall from scaffolding at city hall.

Irene Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hall, was painfully burned about the face and on her right hand by a gas explosion while she was preparing supper.

LeRoy Nichols Brown, 87, one of the oldest retired business men of the village, passed away.

Mrs. J.M. Widener sustained severe bruises from a fall down the back steps on her home.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Luff Laundy.

60 years ago

1948

Walter Auxter, an apprentice at the Mitchell Funeral Home for two years, completed that part of his training and entered the Cleveland College of Embalming for a year's training.

Ground was broken as construction got underway for a $2,000,000 plant expansion program at Clyde Porcelain Steel Corporation.

Sherry Whitacker, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident Aug. 3, was released from Toledo Hospital. It was anticipated that Tom Jackson, who was injured in the same accident, would be released from St. Vincent Hospital in the coming week.

Sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Zane Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Ben E. Davis.

Vickery United Methodist Church was observing the 90th anniversary of its founding with a homecoming.

Two parents attend a local school board meeting to report their children had been threatened repeatedly by a youth on a bus and outside school. Superintendent Todd Helms agreed to meet with families. He later reported the situation had been handled and that intimidation of children was not tolerated in the district.

Military chaplain Ken Lewis, on a respite home from the war in Iraq, talks about the challenges of helping soldiers maintain their faith in battle conditions. Lewis confessed during his visit home he was seeking his own peace while spending time with his wife and children.
