Fliers face loss at hands of Pirates

The Flier baseball team went 4-1 this past week to raise their record to 12-4 for the season and to 4-2 in the Sandusky Bay Conference. The Fliers defeated Tiffin Calvert in a double header at home Apr. 19, then defeated Margaretta at home Apr. 21, St. Marys Central Catholic on the road Apr. 23 before losing to defending SBC champions Perkins at home Apr. 24.
You can catch the Fliers in action Apr. 30 at home against Edison or on the road May 2 at Port Clinton or at home May 5 against Huron.
Tiffin Calvert traveled to Clyde Saturday for a doubleheader and probably wished that they'd stayed at home as the Fliers swept both ends of the twin bill to move their record to 9-3. Calvert falls to 4-8.
The Fliers won the first game 10-3 and then won the second game 10-5. Drew Frazier picked up the win for the Fliers in the first game by only allowing one earned run while pitching a complete game. Frazier gave up five hits with six strikeouts while walking four. John Stover took the loss for Calvert.
The Fliers scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning. The Fliers then reversed those scores with three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning for a 10-1 lead. Calvert scored two runs in the seventh inning but it was not near enough.
Joel Meyer was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI's. Gillett was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Shell was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Zach Stanley was 1-for-3 and John Castaneda was 1-for-4.
The Flier baseball team kept their hot hand going when they traveled to Sandusky to play St. Marys Central Catholic and topped the Panthers 13-7 in eight innings. Ludrowsky keyed the Fliers six run eight inning with a three RBI triple.
Ludrowsky started for the Fliers and pitched 6 2/3 innings. Ludrowsky was the recipient of some bad luck as he gave up seven runs but only two of them were earned. Ludrowsky gave up six hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Andrews relieved Ludrowsky and pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit with two strikeouts to earn the win. Jake Schwerer took the loss for SMCC.
Offensively for the Fliers John Castaneda was 2-for-5 with three RBI's. Drew Frazier was 4-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored. Tyler Ludrowsky was 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBI's. Joel Meyer was 2for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Alex Gillett was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jacob Andrews was 1-for-6. Rob Shell was 1-for-5. Cody Andrews was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Perkins pitcher Spencer Bryant reminded the Fliers that the SBC baseball title still runs through Perkins High School as he defeated the Fliers 9-2 to keep the defending champion Pirates in first place. Alex Gillett took the loss for the Fliers.
Gillett was hurt by four Flier errors but also gave up a pair of home runs. Gillett gave up nine runs, two earned in five innings of work while allowing six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Frank Alafita pitched the last two innings and gave up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts and a walk.
The Pirates scored a run in the second inning and two more in the third to go up 3-0. In the fourth inning the Pirates scored four more runs to go up 7-0. They added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to lead 9-0 before the Fliers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Flier offense was led by Zach Stanley who was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Rob Shell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and John Castaneda was 1-for-3 with a double.
