Local police are 'blue'

Clyde Police will be changing their uniform colors beginning May 11.

After 20 years of wearing two-tone brown uniforms and a Mountie-style hat, local officers will be switching to traditional officer blue uniforms this weekend, according to Police Chief Bruce Gower.

On Tuesday night, the Clyde City Council approved a resolution to allow the police department to purchase a new 2007-model Ford Crown Victoria $20,869 from Advantage Ford.

Gower announced that the new car would be painted white and match the department's white Jeep. Then he said uniforms were also changing. The police chief said the main reason for the uniform change was cost as the traditional blue uniforms and tradition police caps cost at least a third less than the brown uniforms.
