Helms trial set for Nov. 3, board to see audit results
A Sandusky County Common Pleas Court Trial for Todd Helms, ex-superintendent of Clyde-Green Springs School, has been postponed until Nov. 3.
The change in trial dates comes as the Ohio State Auditor's Office has set to meet with the local school board at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8 to review a special audit on school funds.
The court clerk for Sandusky County Judge Barbara Ansted reported Wednesday (today) that the Helms trial date was changed following a pretrial earlier this week. Another pretrial has been set for October.
Helms pled not guilty earlier this year to 19 felony counts in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court, including the alleged theft of $300,000 in school funds.
Helms is currently free on an own-recognizance bond and has had his trial postponed twice as it was originally June 16, 2008 and then move to Aug. 11.
Clyde Police and school officials requested a special audit by the Ohio Auditor of State's Office when the local school treasurer discovered a discrepancy in vendor bills in July 2008. The board of education president issued a letter barring Helms from school property and Helms resigned in September 2008 just prior to a board hearing on his future employment.
