Food pantry seeking aid
Clyde Back Door Food Pantry received a generous gift of 93 paper bags full of groceries early last week.
Food pantry director Clyde Police Sgt. Dennis Hall said those groceries are gone.
The 93 bags of groceries were donated by Grace Community Church in Fremont. Those items stocked the shelves of the local pantry last Tuesday. Hall said he had two days during which the pantry was open to the public since then.
"It looks like we're bare," he said about his shelves at the McPherson Highway pantry on Friday.
"We need help," Hall said. In March, the local pantry aided 105 families. In April the number jumped to 121 families.
"As the economy gets worse, I expect more people to come in," he said Friday. Hall said he is trying to be conservative on his spending for the pantry as he wants his funds to last a long as possible. Hall has spent nearly $11,000 on food already thisyear. In 2007, his total topped $35,000.
