Amtrak train collides with pickup in Ohio, 2 injured
CLAY CENTER, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities in northern Ohio say an Amtrak train struck a pickup that failed to stop at a railroad crossing. Two people in the pickup were injured.
The State Highway Patrol says the driver of the pickup, 23-year-old Brent Weyandt, drove around crossing arms at the intersection early Saturday morning. The train carrying 238 people hit the front passenger's side of the pickup.
Weyandt had cuts on both arms and was taken to a Toledo hospital. The passenger in the pickup, 26-year-old Andrew Bowland, had unspecified injuries and was later released from the hospital.
A spokeswoman for Amtrak says the train was en route from Chicago to Washington, D.C. It's not clear how fast the train was traveling at the time of the collision.
The train had minor damage and was able to continue after a two-hour delay for authorities to investigate.
No charges have been filed.
