Three hurt in U.S. 20 chase

Fremont Troopers and Clyde Police Department were involved in a short pursuit Saturday, April 19, at roughly 1:55 a.m. The OSP did not release the names of the driver and occupants of the suspect vehicle as of Tuesday.

The pursuit started when Trooper Odom of the Fremont Post of the Ohio State Patrol, attempted to stop a silver-colored, eastbound 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, for a speed violation, on East State Street.

Trooper Odom was in the process of turning to stop the vehicle in question, when it took off at a high rate of speed, continuing eastbound on CR 20, entering U.S. 20 headed towards the City of Clyde.

The vehicle went through a red traffic light at the intersection of Ohio 19 and U.S. 20, and continued eastbound. The suspect vehicle gained speed and was in excess of 80 mph, according to an OSP press release.

Clyde Police were notified of the incident, and they prepared to deploy "stop sticks" in their city as the pursuit approached. The pursuit came into the city limits of Clyde on U.S. 20 still headed eastbound. The suspect driver lost control of her Chevrolet, at the intersection of Ohio 101 and U.S. 20, when she attempted to pass a black SUV at that location.

The suspect vehicle spun out of control and continued on into McPherson Cemetery, striking two trees before becoming disabled. Three female juvenile occupants were taken into custody without further incident.

All subjects were transported to the Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries. The investigation and charges are currently pending. The pursuit lasted approximately four minutes and covered a distance of 5.8 miles.
