75-year-old dies after crash

Ernest Pruitt, age 75, rural Fremont, died Monday at University of Toledo Medical Center where he was taken by LifeFlight after an vehicle-bicycle collision at TR 228 and CR 185.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home.

Pruitt was riding a Schwinn bicycle southwest on CR 185 and a 2001 Ford Econoline full size van was also traveling southwest on CR 185.

The van driven by Elmer J. McClanahan, 74, Green Springs, attempted to pass the bicycle when Pruitt swerved left of center, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The bicycle overturned and Pruitt was thrown onto the roadway.

McClanahan was not injured, according to report.

The Fremont Post of the OSP was assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office, Sandusky County EMS and Green Springs Fire Department.

No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
