Helen J. Leonard

Helen Jane (Czyz) Leonard, 88, Fremont, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Fremont.

She was born Dec. 10, 1919 in Toledo, the daughter of Frank and Pauline (Wojtyn) Czyz. She married Charles G. Leonard on March 8, 1945 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1982.

She was a 1939 graduate of Clyde High School and a veteran, having served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. She had worked for many years at the Montgomery Ward Department Store and Lord's Dress Shop, both in Fremont, and retired as an employee of Memorial Hospital in Fremont. She was a member of the Sandusky County Senior Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie (David) Bartlett of Fremont; her son, Albert L. (Jane) Leonard of Clyde; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine Velliquette of Genoa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; three sisters, March Hirsch, Wanda Dobes and Stella Sherman; and two brothers, John Cozy and Albert Chaise.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday, April 24, at 11 a.m., at Foos-Klein Funeral Home, 318 South Main St., with Rev. Thomas Extejt officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde, with military honors conducted by the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts.
