Give us the good too

We find reports of the alleged rape and kidnapping of a teenage girl offensive and chilling. Local people should, we live here.

What is bewildering is why the same report receives so much media coverage in communities that have far more crime than we do.

A little digging into police logs in Sandusky, Toledo and even Fremont would render far more intense crime news than our City of Clyde Police Log.

We have to assume we are an easy story for other media outlets. Our officers are cooperative, records are available, and we do not have many serious incidents.

Hit-and-miss journalism does not do small towns like ours any favors. For every 60-point headline about a Clyde problem, we would like to see the same size headline promoting that our schools are rated effective and that some achieve excellent rates.

For every negative headline or news clip, let's see a news crew attend a public concert at the new auditorium.

It is no wonder that Ohio is home to nearly 90 weekly hometown newspapers like The Clyde Enterprise. It takes a hometown to report the good with the bad and not charge for articles about the everyday events of our lives.
