We would not
steer you wrong
Thinking back about five or six years ago, a large group of local "Naysayers" heckled this newspaper and supporters of the new Clyde High School auditorium.
Even though one-third of the cost of that $3 million facility was donated, the 'naysayers' said the tax was too high. They complained that no one needed an 800-seat auditorium in Clyde.
They could not imagine who would fill it or that it was worth $12-$15 annually to an average taxpayer .
We knew what that facility could mean to this community and we supported passage of the tax to build it. Now look at a few of the events we have enjoyed in that facility since then: The Toledo Symphony, cooking shows, the Grammy-winning Riders in the Sky, Watoto and the U.S. Army Field Band and Chorus.
Now our community faces a much bigger multi-school building project and a bigger personal investment. Again, we expect the rewards will be just as great - four safe, new or renovated schools. Plus we would see a healthy, growing community, which could mean new jobs and more businesses.
Although the Ohio Schools Facility Commission project for Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School District will cost $56 million, the state is forking up two-thirds of that money. That percentage is better than the auditorium deal.
Those of us "working" - not retirees - would pay the one-third local share of the project over 20-some years through a 1-percent earned income tax.
Think ahead and vote "Yes" on March 4.
