More people should attend

While only about 500 people attended the spring Toledo Symphony Orchestra concert Saturday night at the Clyde High School auditorium, it was nonetheless a wonderful event.

The symphony's resident conductor Chelsea Tipton II was light-hearted and jovial making for perfect spring performance of "Silver Screen Classics". In simplest terms - it was a fun event.

Ten years ago could anyone here ever really imagine that workers off the line at the local washer plant would be sitting in front of a symphony and applauding earnestly to an oboe or violin soloist or listening to a Mozart Clarinet Concerto.

In fact, a Clyde Senior High School alumna - long moved away - was overheard commenting she could not imagine she would be coming back to her hometown to watch her adult son play with a symphony.

We encourage local residents not to take the auditorium for granted and to attend every event possible. We also encourage our readers to support the Communities for the Arts. The local group of volunteers has organized show after show for the community's pleasure. CFTA has just announced they will be bringing Country star Aaron Tippin to perform here this September.

The community needs to pack the 800-seat auditorium not only to enjoy what should be another great concert, but to support the CFTA in its efforts to bring better and better artists to our town.
