Sometimes you need to change

Beginning with the April 30 issue of The Clyde Enterprise, the weekly birthday column will no longer be included in the newspaper.

Because of the change, those wishing to include a birthday advertisement with a photograph in the newspaper will be given a special price.

Dropping the birthday list was a difficult decision and has been under review for months. The decision based on editorial judgment solely.

When we added the birthday listing for local people several years ago, it seemed like a very community-minded item. What we discovered over time is that the list has been difficult to keep updated. Various people listed no longer live in our community, which happens with graduation, marriages, divorces and death.

The staff is also adding a new column in time for spring and summer called "Inspirations". It begins in May. Local pastors have been contacted and invited to write an inspirational message to share with readers on our weekly church page. Thus far, we have commitments from a dozen local ministers and lay pastors to participate.

It is our hope that the latter change will be enjoyed by our readers this summer.
