HBT hosts mother-daughter tea
Harvest Baptist Temple, 1022 S. Main Street, has many areas of outreach and one of those areas is through Mother-Daughter banquets or teas, according to a press release.
On Saturday, May 3, the 3rd annual Mother-Daughter Tea took place in the gymnasium at 1 p.m.
The theme of the tea was "To Thee I Wed."
There were 110 ladies in attendance. Six of the men of the church, including Pastor James Lewis and Asst. Pastor Wayne Mott served the ladies drinks and wedding cake. The speaker for the event was Norma Merrin, who is the wife of Pastor Russ Merrin of the Monclova Road Baptist Church in Monclova.
She spoke to the ladies about the importance of commitment; first and foremost to a relationship with God, then to your spouse and to all other commitments you make.
She used the story from the Bible about Abraham committing himself to God to find the perfect spouse for his son, Isaac. This was such an important commitment because it was to be the lineage of Jesus, .
There were two songs sung by Monica Merrin, the daughter of the speaker, and a poem read by Gloria Mott. Many of women brought a wedding picture or accessories worn at their wedding for display, and there were many of the actual dresses on display as well. Some of these dresses were modeled by members from the church. The oldest dress was from 1942 and the newest one was from 2006. There was also a dress on display from 1947 that was made from parachute material. There were seven girls ranging from ages three to 10 who put on a fashion show for the audience.
All the tables were decorated plus there was a table decorating contest. Everyone was given the chance to vote on the "best decorated table." Jean Jinkinson's table won. She received a large wicker basket filled with flowers and many other goodies as a prize. There were also many door prizes given out.
The women of the church honored their Pastor's wife, Rebecca Lewis and her May 5 birthday. She was given a gift, and a couple of the women told of the love and dedication they have learned from Mrs. Lewis. Don Poore took pictures of the ladies with their mothers and daughters.
Sue Miller was the program coordinator.
