1888

The pretty little home of A.G. Winnie presents a dreary appearance today. About ten o'clock this morning an alarm of fire was given, and the flames were soon located in Mr. Winnie's house. The fire department was speedily on the ground, but the fierce element had already secured such a hold that it was some time before it could be got under control. Nearly everything in the house was carried out and saved, but the building itself is almost ruined, the plastering being off, the roof burned and torn away, and numerous holes punctured in the siding. The fire originated from the kitchen chimney, in some unaccountable manner. The building was insured in the Oberlin Mutual Insurance Co. for $800.
