Huron teen
killed in crash
MILAN TWP. -- A 17-year-old Huron teen was killed in a one-vehicle crash Thursday morning on River Road.
Killed was Jordan L. Smith, 9807 River Road, Huron. According to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol the crash ocurred at approximately 11:40 a.m nearly a half mile from her residence.
Troopers said Smith was southbound on River Road north of Franklin Flats when they say she lost control as she negotiated a right curve, driving left of center. Reports indicate Smith swerved back to the right lane, over corrected and swerved back left. The vehicle began to rotate counterclockwise and struck a guardrail with the passenger side. The vehicle broke through the guard rail, up a small embankment, then slide down and came to rest next to the guard rail.
Reports indicate Smith was wearing a seat belt and shoulder harness. The vehicle's front air bags deployed upon impact. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics from North Central EMS.
While unsafe speed may be a factor in the crash, neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected, trooper said.
