Putnam County cleans up damage from 110 mph winds

JUNCTION CITY, Ohio (AP) -- Officials in central Ohio have declared a state of emergency as they clean up from a storm that brought high winds and knocked down trees and power lines.

The storm hit at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service says 110 mph straight-line winds tore through Junction City in Perry County, while winds as high as 80 mph hit nearby New Lexington.

Perry County Emergency Management executive director Rita Spicer says no one was injured. Volunteers and fire crews cleaned up roads and other damage on Tuesday.

American Electric Power says about 9,700 customers in central and southern Ohio were still without power as of about 9 p.m.
