Ohio University: error put personal data online

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio University says the names and Social Security numbers of about 500 doctors and nurses were accidentally posted online for several months.

University spokeswoman Karoline Lane says a clerical error led to the posting on March 20. A nurse found the information last week while conducting an online research, and the spreadsheet was removed July 16.

Lane says there is no indication the personal information was misused, and the person responsible for the posting has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The medical personnel spoke at the school's Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education.

The center has set up a toll-free number for questions and is offering credit-monitoring service for one year.

The spreadsheet also included addresses and federal employer identification numbers.
