Aug. 31, 1926 - July 1, 2008

VERMILION -- Jacqueline "Jackie" Sanders, 81, of Vermilion, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Amherst Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1926, in Bellevue, the daughter of the late James and Leona (Buchman) Lepley. She married Gene Sanders on May 4, 1946, in Bellevue.

Jacqueline was a 1943 graduate of Bellevue High School and throughout her life was employed as a bookkeeper and seamstress. She was a deeply involved member of St. Mary's Church, Vermilion, where she sang in the choir and used her talent as a seamstress to make vestments and altar items. Jackie taught many people to sew and created many wedding dresses for family members. She will long be remembered for her quick smile, generosity and great kindness. Jackie and Gene traveled extensively visiting many parts of the world; she enjoyed creating paintings of the breathing sights they took in.

Along with her husband of 62 years, she is survived by her sons, Eugene (Candy) Sanders, of Vermilion, and Steve (Karen) Sanders, of Sebastian, Fla.; daughter, Judi Wilkes, of Sebastian, Fla.; grandchildren, Justin, Scott, Stacy and Michael; great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Charlie; two brothers, Sylvester "Joe" Lepley, of Bellevue, and Dr. Edward (Sharon) Lepley, of Stanwood, Mich.; sisters, Sue (Bob) Green, Gail (Jim) Miller, both of Bellevue, and Sandra Dillon, of Westerville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Lee Martin; sisters, Marilyn Fox and Catherine "Kitty" Flicker; and brothers, John and James Lepley.

Friends will be received on Sunday, July 6, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass, celebrated by Fr. Jim Holmer, will be held on Monday at St. Mary's Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion, at 10 a.m. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. in Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
